XCOM 2 for Mac now available on Steam, coming later to Mac App Store
Your weekend is no longer your own. Your friends and employers will understand.
Feral Interactive has announced that XCOM 2—the sequel to the highly popular and insanely awesome turn-based strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown—is out now for Mac and Linux via Steam, with the Mac App Store release to follow shortly.
XCOM 2 takes place 20 years after the events of XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Ends up humanity lost the war against the aliens (video games ain’t Hollywood, my friends), and they’ve established a new world order with the promise of a brilliant future for all. Well, except that…
… beneath the surface lies a sinister agenda to eliminate all who dissent from their rule. The paramilitary organization known as XCOM is scattered and largely forgotten, and must strike back to reclaim control of Earth and free humanity from alien rule. In XCOM 2, players must recruit, train and equip a team of resistance soldiers, then engage the alien forces in epic turn-based battles. Not only will XCOM fight against the alien army, but will also face ADVENT, a group of soldiers who make up the aliens’ own personal police force.
So, we lost when it was a well-funded and trained military force against just the aliens, and now it’s just a ragtag group of rebels against aliens and humans? This doesn’t look good.
XCOM 2 features procedurally-generated levels, so no two missions are ever the same (and walkthrough may be pretty useless). Gamers will also see a new standalone Psionic soldier class along with new Psionic abilities and terrifying new alien enemies.
XCOM 2 is available as a standalone base game for $49.99 and as the XCOM 2 Digital Deluxe Edition for $74.99. The latter comprises the base game, the forthcoming Reinforcement Pack, and the XCOM 2 digital soundtrack. The Reinforcement Pack contains the Anarchy’s Children, Alien Hunters, and Shen’s Last Gift content packs, which will be released individually through spring/summer 2016. It is also be available separately for $19.99.
