Obsidian RPG Tyranny will oppress Mac gamers next month
The wait is almost over.
Back in March of this year, Obsidian and Paradox Interactive used GDC to announce their RPG Tyranny was in development for Mac, Linux and Windows gamers. Today, they’ve finally given us a release date. Tyranny will arrive on all three platforms on November 10, 2016. That’s less than a month away, so whatever games you’re lallygagging your way through right now, you’d better wrap them up.
Hopefully, you’ve already cleared room in your budget, too. Preorders are now being accepted, allowing you to “… secure bonus material that will help demonstrate their loyalty to Kyros the Overlord.”
Loyalty to whom? Well, this trailer will help explain it:
To sum up:
In Tyranny, the grand war between good and evil is over – and the forces of evil, led by Kyros the Overlord, have won. The Overlord’s merciless armies dominate the face of the world, and its denizens must find their new roles within the war-torn realm. Players interact with the populace to inspire loyalty, disgust, or fear as they roam the world as an officer in Kyros’ forces, empowered to act as both judge and executioner.
In other words, it’s a pretty unique take on the RPG genre. Rather than leaving your farm to squash evil and save the kingdom, you kind of are the evil. Or at least you’re part of it. And because your decisions greatly affect your loyalties and the game’s outcome, you’re getting an experience with high replay value.
Now, as for those preorders, there are three tiers available. The basic Commander Edition will run you $44.99. That comes with some goodies, but the $59.99 Archon Edition throws in the soundtrack, a collection of short stories set in the game’s universe, a detailed digital map, and more. Finally, you can get the $79.99 Overlord Edition to obtain a digital guide book and digital art book. And if this game’s as big as claimed, that guide book could be very handy (provided you’re not willing to wait around for myriad YouTubers to show you the way).
