Banner Saga 3 now on Kickstarter
Fans of Banner Saga (i.e., everyone who’s ever played a video game) had better reach for their credit card. Stoic has announced that the Kickstarter campaign for the game’s final chapter—Banner Saga 3—is now live. The developers are seeking at least $200,000 over the course of the campaign, and have already raised over $67,000 at press time.
Banner Saga—a turn based strategy game steeped in viking culture—is no stranger to Kickstarter. The critically acclaimed original was made after a remarkably successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2012. Banner Saga 2 followed (reviewed here by David Temple), and Banner Saga 3 will bring the epic, story-driven saga to a close.
In Banner Saga 3, players will embark on their final journey beyond the wall of Darkness to traverse the world unlike anything encountered in previous sagas. The beautifully hand drawn Viking role-playing adventure will once again test the player’s resolve through epic tactical battles against deadly adversaries where a player’s choice directly affects their personal journey. The lives of your clansmen and their families have never been more significant than in the final act of the series. Banner Saga 3 stretch goals for the Kickstarter campaign will aim to enhance the game further if the initial funding goal is met, ultimately this will include more content to help drive the story and add even more production value to the final game.
You’ll want to head over to Kickstarter to grab all the game’s details, for there are many, and it all looks wonderful. There are also many pledge levels:
- $20 will get you the game for Mac or PC on Steam or GOG.com.
- $30 gets your name in the credits and unique startup screen artwork.
- $75 adds digital downloads of the soundtrack for all three games, digital artwork, heroic in-game items, and more.
- Pledge $10,000 and you can get a Stoic drinking horn! (Plus some other things and opportunities.)
Haven’t played Banner Saga and Banner Saga 2 yet? No worries. Add $20 onto any pledge level and you can get ahold of those games, too.
No matter at what level you pledge, the game will be made available to backers in December of 2018 (that’s the current estimate, anyway). No date has been provided for the official release to the public.
