Ys Chronicles II now available for iOS
DotEmu continues its quest to bring classic games to modern devices with today’s announcement that Ys Chronicles II is now available in the App Store. And as with its predecessor, Ys Chronicles II comes with a by-God price and no in-app purchases or ads. It’s adventuring the way adventuring was meant to be.
Ys, in case you’re too young to remember, is a JRPG originally released in 1989 in Japan, 1990 in the U.S. It was one of the first video games to use CD-ROM to provide animated cut scenes, voice acting, and other features that were quite unique for the time.
Of course, that’s all standard fare these days, so what do you get in this newly enhanced version? Well, Ys II for mobile provides:
- Three soundtracks from which to choose: Chronicles, Original, and PC-88
- Two game modes: Adventure and Time Attack
- Two graphics modes (available in Adventure mode only): Chronicles and Original
- Four difficulty levels
- HD Menus
- Virtual Pad and joystick support
- New artifacts, weapons, and armor
- Numerous spells to defeat your enemies
In addition, Ys II uses the same “BUMP” system as its predecessor, requiring you to attack enemies by pouncing on them.
So, I guess the process of level grinding should be referred to as the bump and grind? Is that right? Because it seems like it shouldn’t be.
If this all sounds great (and it does), but you haven’t yet played Ys Chronicles I, now’s your chance to grab it at half price. Otherwise, head into the iTunes App Store to get Ys Chronicles II for $4.99.
