New Ghostbusters game for new Ghostbusters movie
You know that one guy who always trying to convince you that Ghostbusters really wasn’t that great of a movie? Well, that guy was me. I seriously didn’t get it then, and I don’t get it now. Yes, Bill Murray was better than the material, but did he have to act like it for two hours?
However, the reboot coming from director Paul Feig this summer has me intrigued, as 75% of the cast is funnier than 75% of the original cast. Hell, put Kate McKinnon in it and I’d even go see a Young Guns reboot!
So, if you’re getting into the Ghostbusters vibe, you’ll be happy to know that Activision Publishing, Inc., and Sony Pictures Consumer Products are teaming up to bring mobile gamers the new Ghostbusters: Slime City (there’s a new console game, too, but no word of a Mac version of that yet).
Ghostbusters: Slime City introduces a new casts of rookies (in other words, no Wiig, McKinnon, Jones or McCarthy) who must protect New York City when the “now-famous Ghostbusters tour the country stopping high-profile poltergeists.”
In other words, the game is based on a faulty premise. No way the A-listers would leave New York, because if there’s one thing I learned during my five years of living there it’s that if it didn’t happen in New York City, it probably didn’t happen at all.
The mobile game lets players be a Ghostbuster and save New York City from a new wave of threats. Team up with other players in asynchronous co-op, and collect powerful ghosts to rise to the top of the leaderboards. Players can also craft their own proton packs from any number of combinations of components, as well as upgrade their own headquarters and complete jobs around the city for new weapons and rewards.
Ghostbusters: Slime City is expected to launch in July on select iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. Until then, ladies and gentlemen, the incomparable Kate McKinnon!
